Toddler’s Travel Potty

I was concerned that my daughter would lose her good potty habits and act as a young diaper-only baby once more when if she spent too much time without a potty. Most places are not like Sesame Place, which has child-sized toilets for the very young.

After some research, I purchased this potty:

A travel potty, in uncollapsed form.

The look resembles a potty, which I think is important for the baby visually. Some travel potties look like a collapsible crate with a vaguely oval hole on the top.

At about one foot tall assembled, this was not too big for a 1-year-old. The dimensions when collapsed are roughly 1 foot by 1 foot with a height of about 4 inches.

It has an interior container to catch whatever my baby deposits when one can clean it out but also fits bags for when one cannot.

It is collapsible for travel, and the legs can be splayed outward as a smaller-sized toilet seat so that my toddler does not fall into a toilet.

They also advertise a small compartment for folding the bags, but I usually keep the bags elsewhere. The listing I purchased came with 2 rolls of 20 bags each with drawstring closures.

To prepare my child for using this potty out-of-country, we set it up in the house and encouraged her to try it. Fortunately for us, she was very willing to try it. She actually enjoyed getting a choice of which potty to use when she goes and would tell us which one she wanted to use each time.

When traveling, it worked as expected. It does collapse comfortably and the child was willing to sit on and use it. We did rinse out liquid waste to avoid using too many bags.

After returning home, she apparently thinks of this as her moving potty and carries it with her to different rooms to use. Although this is not completely a positive, it is not fully bad, either.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with this for under US$20.

This part of the instructional manual explains that are 3 uses. It is really just two: actual toddler potty or converter for adult toilet.
The dimensions of this travel potty fit into a carry-on easily.

Update: Now that Small Sophie is 3 1/2, we use this as her out-of-the-house potty and keep it in the car. She still finds it comfortable to use, and we still find the disposable bags make this helpful when we are in a situation without easily accessible places to wash the removable receptacle. I will probably bring this back in the house when the next baby is around 1, because the short height makes this very easy for small children to sit.
